National Fruit & Veggies-More Matters Month

National Fruit & Veggies—More Matters Month encourages people to eat more fruits and vegetables and learn about the benefits of including them in everyday meals. The observance takes place throughout September, offering a month-long reminder to enjoy produce in a variety of forms, including fresh, frozen, canned, dried, and 100% juice.

The Fruits & Veggies—More Matters campaign began in 2007, replacing the earlier 5 A Day program. Developed by the Produce for Better Health Foundation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it encouraged Americans to move beyond a fixed serving goal and make fruits and vegetables a larger part of their overall eating patterns. The September observance was later rebranded as National Fruits & Veggies Month in 2019. Today, the Have A Plant movement continues to encourage people to include a fruit or vegetable whenever they enjoy a meal or snack.

How to Observe National Fruit & Veggies-More Matters Month

Celebrate by adding an extra fruit or vegetable to a meal or snack each day. Try a produce variety you have never tasted, mix fruit into breakfast, add vegetables to a sandwich or soup, or prepare a colorful salad. You can also visit a farmers market, experiment with a new produce-focused recipe, or share a meal with friends and family.
