Steak and Knobber Day is an adult-themed observance that pairs a steak dinner with sexual intimacy as a humorous response to Valentine’s Day. It is observed annually on March 20.
According to the holiday’s website, the observance was created in 1998 by San Diego radio personality Dave Rickards. The same site describes March 20 as the day for celebrating Steak and Knobber Day, although other accounts associate a similarly named observance with March 14 and radio DJ Tom Birdsey in 2002. Because the idea is satirical and adult-oriented, it has also prompted criticism over its treatment of gender roles and sexual expectations.
How to Observe Steak and Knobber Day
Celebrate by preparing or enjoying a steak with a consenting adult partner, and make the evening about mutual enjoyment rather than obligation. Talk openly about what everyone wants, skip any activity that does not appeal to both people, or simply share a good meal and treat the holiday as a playful excuse for quality time.
