National Cherries Jubilee Day

Cherries Jubilee Day celebrates the dessert, cherries jubilee. It consists of black cherries that are flambéed with kirsch or brandy, and put over vanilla ice cream. The recipe was likely created by French chef Auguste Escoffier, who may have prepared it for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee celebration in 1897. It was a popular dish in the United States at restaurants and dinner-parties from the 1930's-1960's.

National Cherries Jubilee Day is observed next on Tuesday, September 24th, 2019. It has always been observed annually on September 24th.

How to Observe

Celebrate the day by eating cherries jubilee. Why not try to make your own? You could even try to make Escoffier's recipe.
