National Fondue Month celebrates the warm, communal pleasure of dipping food into melted cheese, chocolate, broth, or another savory sauce. Observed throughout February, it invites friends and family to gather around a shared pot and enjoy an interactive meal.
Fondue is best known as a Swiss dish of melted cheese served in a communal pot, with bread dipped using long-stemmed forks. The dish has a history reaching back to the 18th century; the Swiss Cheese Union promoted fondue as a traditional Swiss dish in the 1930s, and it became common in North America in the 1960s. Chocolate fondue, another popular variation, was created by Swiss restaurateur Konrad Egli in 1960.
Whether you prefer classic cheese fondue, sweet chocolate fondue, or a broth for cooking meats, February is a chance to experiment with fondue’s many possibilities and share a cozy meal.
How to Observe National Fondue Month
Celebrate by hosting a fondue gathering with friends or family. Prepare cheese, chocolate, or broth fondue, then provide foods such as bread, fruit, vegetables, or meat for dipping. You can also try a new fondue recipe, teach someone how to make it, or enjoy a fondue-themed meal while watching a movie.
