Farm to Food Bank Month encourages California farmers and ranchers to help families in need by donating food or pledging a future donation to a food bank. The California Department of Food and Agriculture and the California Association of Food Banks promoted December as Farm to Food Bank Month in 2011, connecting the state’s agricultural community with efforts to expand food access. Donations may include fresh produce and other farm products, which food banks distribute to people facing hunger. According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s announcement, the campaign was part of an effort to double California farm contributions to food banks over five years.
