La Poutine Week celebrates poutine, the Québécois dish of french fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. During the festival, restaurants across Canada create creative, limited-edition versions of the dish, giving diners a chance to explore new combinations while supporting local eateries. Customers can also vote for their favorite poutines in several prize categories.
The festival was founded by Na’eem Adam and Thierry Rassam. Its first edition took place in Montreal in 2013, when 30 restaurants offered special poutines and diners visited different establishments to taste and vote for their favorites. La Poutine Week later expanded to cities across Canada. Although the classic combination remains popular, participating chefs have also created globally inspired, vegetarian, breakfast, and dessert variations. From 2022, some editions extended to two weeks, giving poutine fans more time to sample the offerings.
