National Chicken Month is observed throughout September as a promotion of chicken and chicken products in the United States. The month highlights chicken’s versatility, with preparations ranging from fried, baked, broiled, and grilled dishes to soups, salads, and stews.
According to the National Chicken Council’s industry history, the chicken industry established September as National Chicken Month to extend the grilling season and encourage greater chicken consumption into the fall. The National Chicken Council and the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association have sponsored the observance, which has included consumer promotions, recipes, and other publicity. In an earlier 2003 promotion, the NCC described the month as a way to help extend the summer selling season.
