Jackfruit Day celebrates jackfruit, a fruit that was identified as a rising food trend in 2016. Observed annually on July 4, the day was created to raise awareness of jackfruit and highlight its appeal to people interested in vegetarian and vegan food. Its central message was to “declare your independence from meat” on the Fourth of July.
Pallant Digital launched Jackfruit Day in 2016 as a food-awareness and digital-marketing project. According to Ben Davis’s account of how the day was created, the project brought together images, videos, recipes, nutritional data, and information about where to buy jackfruit. The first observance was promoted through social media and reached visitors from 27 countries, with recipes and “where-to-buy” pages among the site’s most popular content.
How to Observe Jackfruit Day
Celebrate by trying jackfruit in a meal, exploring a jackfruit recipe, or learning more about the fruit’s uses and nutritional information. If you are interested in plant-based food, use July 4 as an opportunity to explore the day’s original “independence from meat” theme. Share a jackfruit dish or information about it with friends, and point them toward the account of Jackfruit Day’s creation.
