National Mashed Idaho Potato Day

National Mashed Idaho Potato Day celebrates mashed potatoes made with Idaho potatoes. Observed on the fifth Thursday in November, the holiday places a spotlight on a familiar Thanksgiving-time side dish.

The Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) and Chobani helped launch the celebration in 2019 with a recipe campaign featuring mashed Idaho potatoes made with Chobani Greek Yogurt. The campaign promoted the connection between Idaho’s potato and dairy industries and highlighted mashed potatoes as a centerpiece of holiday meals. The IPC’s announcement also explains that the commission, established in 1937, promotes and protects the “Grown in Idaho” seal, which identifies genuine Idaho potatoes.

How to Observe National Mashed Idaho Potato Day

Celebrate by preparing or enjoying mashed Idaho potatoes. For a nod to the 2019 launch campaign, try making them with Greek yogurt. You can also learn more about the Idaho Potato Commission and the “Grown in Idaho” seal through the commission’s announcement.
