National Cheese Toast Day

Sizzler was founded in Culver City, California, on January 27, 1958, by Del and Helen Johnson under the name Sizzler Family Steak House. Sizzler is known for its steaks and Unlimited Craft Salad Bar, but also for its Cheese Toast, which is celebrated today with National Cheese Toast Day! They served up their first slice of Cheese Toast, made with parmesan-crusted French bread, at the Sizzler on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood in 1968. By the time National Cheese Toast Day was first celebrated in 2015, more than 12 million slices of Cheese Toast were being served every year, and Sizzler restaurants were found not only in the United States, but in locations around the globe like Thailand and Australia.

During the early years of National Cheese Toast Day, Sizzler gave out free Cheese Toast at participating restaurants. They also hosted a Cheese Toast social media photo contest, giving away $100 gift cards and mystery prizes to the winners. One year, they even created Cheese Toast-flavored lip balm in honor of the day.
