Rhubarb vodka itself was introduced in the United States by Maple River Distillery in 2010, according to an account of the drink’s development. Rhubarb is botanically a vegetable, although its tart stalks are commonly used in pies, jams, jellies, and beverages. The holiday’s creator is not consistently documented: one source credits Maple River Distillery, while another says the creator is unknown. National Rhubarb Vodka Day is nevertheless listed as beginning in 2013.
