National Baking Month

National Baking Month is observed in January and celebrates the creativity, comfort, and connection found in baking. From warm cookies and layered cakes to savory, gluten-free, and vegan creations, baking offers plenty of room to explore new recipes, flavors, and techniques.

Baking can also be a shared experience. Families and friends may bake together, document their creations with photos or a baking journal, or extend the joy beyond their own kitchens by giving a loaf or other baked treat to a neighbor or someone in need. Illinois Extension’s celebration of National Baking Month encourages both experienced bakers and beginners to try their hand at creating something delicious.

How to Observe National Baking Month

Celebrate by choosing a recipe you have never tried and experimenting with new flavors or techniques. Invite family or friends to bake with you, and take photos or keep a baking journal to record the results. Share a freshly baked treat with a neighbor, a loved one, or someone in need.
