National Craft Jerky Day

National Craft Jerky Day celebrates craft jerky and the small-batch makers who create it. Observed annually on November 27, the day shines a spotlight on jerky’s variety of flavors and the care behind handmade recipes. Jerky is thinly sliced, salted meat that has been dried, with options ranging from familiar beef to other meats and flavors such as smoky, spicy, and sweet varieties. Long Beach Jerky Co. created the holiday in 2016 to honor small-batch jerky makers. According to National Day Calendar’s proclamation, the idea grew from Alex Naticchioni’s family tradition of making jerky with his grandfather, Albert “Gramps,” who gave homemade jerky to family members at Christmas. November 27 was chosen in honor of Gramps’ birthday. Naticchioni and Richie Beckman, founders of Long Beach Jerky Co., were also inspired by those old family recipes when developing their craft.
