Pride in Foodservice Week

Pride in Foodservice Week recognizes nutrition and foodservice professionals, along with other members of nutrition services teams, for their hard work and dedication to client care. The five-day observance begins on the first Monday in February and highlights the vital work performed by non-commercial foodservice departments in settings such as hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, and correctional facilities. According to the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP), these professionals help provide nutrition and foodservice services on a daily basis.

ANFP introduced Pride in Foodservice Week in 1991. The association’s history page says the recognition week applauds dietary managers and their staff for their hard work and dedication on the job. Facilities have marked the week with festive decorations, special treat breaks, employee spotlights, special menus, staff dinners, and food drives. These activities give foodservice teams an opportunity to celebrate their work and receive appreciation from the people and organizations they serve.

How to Observe Pride in Foodservice Week

Celebrate by thanking the nutrition and foodservice professionals in your workplace or community. If you work in a facility, spotlight team members, create a special menu, share a meal together, or organize a food drive. ANFP also suggests writing appreciation notes, volunteering at a local food pantry, collecting donations for a food bank, or planning a cooking or baking contest. Find more ideas in ANFP’s celebration guide.
