Created by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the organization behind "Beef. It's What's For Dinner," an advertising campaign funded by the Beef Checkoff Program, National Beef Burger Day honors beef and kicks off the summer grilling season. Families across the country come together to celebrate their love of real beef burgers and in the process support American farmers and ranchers. During some observances, "Beef. It's What's For Dinner" has organized promotions and contests for the day. During the first year they gave away grilling packs, and during the second year they organized a beef burger battle, with chefs competing to make the best beef burger.
"Beef. It's What's For Dinner" has also shared tips on how to cook beef burgers in honor of the day. They highlight the merits of cooking them on a grill, saying it's an easy method for feeding a crowd, since many burgers can fit on a grill, and that it is quick and easy and keeps mess and heat outdoors. They mention that beef burgers can also be cooked with a cast iron skillet, smoker, griddle, and even with a waffle iron. They share additional tips, suggesting that beef patties be slightly bigger than their bun so that they are the same size as the bun after cooking, and that a burger should only be flipped once during cooking, after it has released from the cooking surface, to lock juices inside. A reminder is also given that the burgers should be cooked to a safe internal temperature.
How to Observe National Beef Burger Day
Enjoy some burgers! Join family and friends and make some on a grill, or make them on a cast iron skillet, on a griddle, or another way. Eat them on a bun or bread or plain. Load them with toppings such as cheese, onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and avocado, and with condiments like ketchup, mustard, and relish. Check to see if "Beef. It's What's For Dinner" has organized any promotions or contests for the day, and read more about beef burgers from them.
