Supermarket Employee Day

Supermarket Employee Day, observed annually on February 22, recognizes the employees who work in grocery stores and food retail, helping keep communities supplied and supported. The day acknowledges the many roles involved in getting food from shipments to shelves and assisting customers in stores.

The Food Industry Association (FMI) proclaimed the first observance in 2021. In 2024, grocers marked the occasion with social media messages, donations, and other employee benefits, while Missouri issued a proclamation recognizing supermarket employees’ contributions to the state’s communities, according to Abasto’s coverage of the observance.

How to Observe Supermarket Employee Day

Celebrate by thanking supermarket employees for their work, whether with a kind word during a shopping trip or a note of appreciation. Share a message recognizing grocery workers online, participate in an appreciation activity at your local store, or support an employee-recognition effort. Remember to be patient and courteous, especially when stores are busy.
