National Kegger Weekend

National Kegger Weekend is a lighthearted celebration of the keg party, observed during the second weekend in October. Merriam-Webster defines a kegger as a party featuring one or more kegs of beer, also known as a keg party.

A 2017 Thrillist roundup listed National Kegger Weekend among several unusual alcohol-related observances and portrayed it as an excuse to extend a keg party across an entire weekend. Reliable sources do not identify the observance’s creator, founding date, or any official recognition, so it is best understood as an informal novelty holiday.

How to Observe National Kegger Weekend

Adults of legal drinking age may celebrate by hosting a responsible gathering with a keg of beer, or by attending one where alcohol is served legally. Offer plenty of food, water, and appealing alcohol-free drinks, and never pressure anyone to drink. Make transportation plans before the party begins so nobody drives after drinking. Drinking is optional: a keg of root beer, sparkling water, or another nonalcoholic beverage can preserve the party theme without alcohol. The CDC advises that drinking less or not drinking at all lowers alcohol-related health risks.
