National Crawfish Day celebrates crawfish, also known as “mudbugs,” and their place in Southern food culture. Crawfish are freshwater crustaceans often enjoyed in dishes such as boils and crawfish tails. A crawfish boil brings family and friends together around a shared meal, commonly served at a newspaper-covered table.
According to the National Day Calendar proclamation, Shell Shack founded National Crawfish Day in 2020 and encouraged people to enjoy crawfish during peak season with friends and family. The Registrar at National Day Calendar proclaimed the observance for April 17 annually.
