National Steak Day (UK)

National Steak Day (UK) celebrates steak and encourages diners to appreciate quality meat. It takes place annually on April 25 and was first held in 2019.

The day was founded by Nathan Evans, then operations director of Smith & Wollensky, and launched by the steakhouse during British Beef Week. Its stated aim was to showcase quality steak and support steak businesses across the UK, while also acknowledging that people should eat less red meat for environmental and health reasons. According to Evans, the message was that when people do choose meat, they should seek out “the best of the best.” The Caterer reported on the day’s launch.

The inaugural observance brought together restaurants in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Participating businesses were asked to offer at least one steak at 25% off or provide a special-value menu; the first event also featured restaurants and brands across the country. Smith & Wollensky’s announcement described the day as an alliance of steak restaurants intended to celebrate steak and the businesses that serve it. Past participating restaurants included Smith & Wollensky, Goodman Canary Wharf, Gaucho, Hix restaurants, Bodean’s BBQ, and others.
