National Açaí Bowl Day

National Açaí Bowl Day celebrates açaí bowls, thick, spoonable dishes made from blended frozen açaí pulp and finished with fruit, granola, and other toppings. The bowl is connected to Brazilian cuisine, while açaí itself has long been a staple of Indigenous diets in the Amazon.

Sambazon established the observance in 2013, with the first celebration taking place on April 6 of that year. According to Sambazon’s account of the holiday, the day invites people to experience the flavors of Brazil that inspired the company’s founding mission. Early celebrations included juice and smoothie bars, along with Sambazon’s own bowl shops.

How to Observe National Açaí Bowl Day

Celebrate by enjoying an açaí bowl at home or ordering one from a local café or smoothie bar. For a homemade version, blend frozen açaí pulp into a thick base, then add sliced fruit, granola, coconut, chia seeds, nuts, or another favorite topping. You can also learn more about açaí’s Amazonian roots and try a new combination of flavors.
