Negroni Week celebrates the Negroni, a classic cocktail made with equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. The seven-day event also turns a toast into a way to give back: participating bars and restaurants serve classic Negronis and creative variations while raising money for charitable causes.

Imbibe Magazine launched Negroni Week in 2013, and joined forces with Campari in 2014 to expand the initiative globally. By 2018, more than 1,300 bars had participated and raised over $120,000 for charities, according to Imbibe’s account of the event. In 2025, donations support Slow Food’s mission to foster a more equitable and sustainable world of food and beverage, with local events taking place at bars, restaurants, and retailers around the world according to Campari.

The cocktail’s history is often traced to Florence in 1919, where Count Camillo Negroni is said to have asked bartender Fosco Scarselli to strengthen an Americano by replacing—or, according to some accounts, supplementing—its soda water with gin. Because this story is disputed, it is best treated as a popular account rather than settled fact. Negroni Week 2025 takes place from September 22 through 28.

How to Observe Negroni Week

Celebrate by visiting a participating bar, restaurant, or retailer for a classic Negroni or a creative variation, and let your purchase support the event’s charitable mission. You can also mix a Negroni at home using equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, or experiment with a variation. Check the official Negroni Week site for ways to participate, and enjoy responsibly.
