National Italian Cheese Month

National Italian Cheese Month celebrates the buttery, bold, creamy, crumbly, and nutty cheeses associated with Italian cuisine throughout September. Italian cheese is made in both Italy and America, and some varieties have Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status, meaning they are made in a specific region according to traditional methods.

Galbani founded National Italian Cheese Month in 2017 to celebrate America’s love of Italian cheese. The month is a chance to enjoy familiar favorites such as mozzarella and ricotta, explore different tastes and textures, and learn about the long history of cheesemaking in Italy. Accounts place Italian cheesemaking as far back as the Roman Empire, when some families had special kitchens for making, aging, and storing cheese.
