National Soufflé Potato Day celebrates the pillowy, puffed potato specialty known as the soufflé potato. Observed annually on September 30, it serves as the grand finale to National Potato Month, which is commemorated each September.
Arnaud’s Restaurant and Foodimentary partnered to launch the first National Soufflé Potato Day in 2021. The dish is attributed to French chef Jean-Louis-François Collinet, who reportedly created soufflé potatoes by accident sometime in the 1830s. At Arnaud’s, Norris Sam Jr. has been responsible for preparing the restaurant’s soufflé potatoes for nearly 20 years, a role he has taken pride in mastering. Read more about the holiday’s launch.
How to Observe National Soufflé Potato Day
Celebrate by enjoying soufflé potatoes at home or ordering them from a restaurant that serves them. Learn about the dish’s reported 1830s origins, or try preparing your own version. If you visit Arnaud’s, check for current offerings before making plans, since the restaurant’s launch-year promotions were limited to that observance.
