Wine Tourism Day

Wine Tourism Day celebrates travel centered on wine, including visits to vineyards and wineries, tours of production facilities, tastings, and learning about the regions where wine is made. Wine tourism—also called enotourism—may even include vineyard walks or participation in a grape harvest. Visitors often learn a winery’s history, see how wine is produced, and sample wines or enjoy a meal focused on them, as described by AnydayGuide.

The observance began in 2009 as European Wine Tourism Day, organized by the European Network of Wine Cities (RECEVIN) to promote wine tourism in Europe. As wine cities in other countries joined, it became known simply as Wine Tourism Day. The event data places it on Saturday of the first full week in November from 2014 onward; a North American observance was also held on May 11, 2013, according to Wikiwand’s overview of wine tourism.

How to Observe Wine Tourism Day

Celebrate by visiting a winery or vineyard for a tour and tasting, or attend a local wine tasting or wine-and-food pairing class. You can also explore the history and production of wine through a book, documentary, or podcast, or buy a bottle from a wine-producing region you have not tried before. If you drink, make safe transportation arrangements and never drive afterward.
