Chicken Soup for the Soul Week celebrates the inspirational stories and uplifting messages associated with the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series. The series features short, personal stories about ordinary people, offering themes of hope, resilience, kindness, and human connection.

The series began in 1993, when motivational speakers Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen compiled 101 stories they had heard from audiences into a book. They chose the name Chicken Soup for the Soul because they wanted the stories to soothe and comfort readers like homemade soup. According to the series’ official history, audiences had repeatedly asked whether the stories from Canfield and Hansen’s talks were available in a book.

Observed on the fourth Sunday in October, this week is an opportunity to enjoy an encouraging story, reflect on where you have been and where you are going, and appreciate the people who have helped you along the way.
