National Blueberry Day celebrates blueberries and encourages appreciation of the flavorful fruit. Observed annually on July 8, the holiday was created by Holiday Insights in 2016. The date was selected because blueberries are ripening in the field at that time.
The holiday’s stated purpose is to recognize blueberries, including their fiber and antioxidant content. A 2020 account of National Blueberry Day says that Holiday Insights declared July 8 as the observance and described its goal as highlighting the berries’ health benefits. Despite its “National” name, Holiday Insights notes that neither the U.S. Congress nor the president has proclaimed a national day for blueberries.
How to Observe National Blueberry Day
Celebrate by enjoying blueberries fresh or frozen, adding them to meals and snacks, or baking them into a favorite recipe. You could also blend them into a smoothie, spoon them over vanilla ice cream, visit a U-pick farm, or plant blueberry bushes in your yard.
