National Peach Month

National Peach Month celebrates the peach and its contribution to the food supply and economy. The fuzzy stone fruit can be enjoyed fresh from the tree or baked into desserts, and peaches are commonly described as either freestone, whose flesh comes away easily from the pit, or clingstone, whose flesh clings to it. A 2024 article from the Library of Congress identifies July 1982 as the month designated for the observance.

President Ronald Reagan proclaimed National Peach Month in 1982, with the event metadata recording June 15 as the date of the proclamation. Contemporary holiday references describe the National Peach Council as promoting activities and encouraging people to enjoy peaches during the month. Some later sources place the observance in August instead, so accounts differ; Checkiday observes it in July, as established in the event record.

How to Observe National Peach Month

Celebrate by enjoying peaches fresh or preparing a favorite peach recipe. Try them in a baked dessert, compare a freestone peach with a clingstone, or learn more about the fruit’s role in American agriculture. Share a peach with friends and enjoy the month one juicy bite at a time!
