International Girls Day
Created by Kappa Delta, International Girls Day celebrates girls with all types of interests and abilities and is for helping them build their confidence to reach their full potential. The theme of the day is "She Can Do Anything," which reminds girls that there is no limit to what they can achieve—they will be tomorrow's leaders, CEOs, inventors, and entrepreneurs. The Kappa Delta sorority holds events with girls and Girl Scouts in their communities to help girls build confidence and set goals.
International Girls Day is observed next on Wednesday, November 14th, 2018. It has been observed annually on November 14th since 2009.
How to Observe
Use the day to inspire girls to build confidence and reach their full potential. Take girls on a campus tour, help plan a service event for them to participate in, or invite women community leaders together to have a discussion. You could also look for Kappa Delta events to take girls to. Use the hashtag #YouCan throughout the day.
If you are a girl, think about how you would like to impact your community or the world, and what type of career you may want. Speak with women and see how they made their decisions or got where they are. Sign up for a class or club and try something new. Celebrate your individuality by making a scrapbook or photo album highlighting your interests. Along with other girls, volunteer or do service work in your community, such as cleaning up parks, gathering food for a pantry, or donating items to girls in need.
