National Après Day celebrates the joy of unwinding and reconnecting after a day well spent. Inspired by après-ski culture—socializing with friends after time on the slopes—the holiday broadens the idea beyond skiing. An adventure might be a hike, bike ride, surf session, workday, or simply a day spent with family and friends. The goal is to pause, share stories, and savor the experience with a drink or a meal.
Après is French for “after,” and in American ski culture, après-ski commonly refers to socializing and enjoying refreshments after skiing. Breckenridge Distillery established National Après Day in 2023 as part of its #AprèsAnywhere campaign, encouraging people to celebrate anywhere and after anything. The first observance took place on March 31, 2023, and the holiday is held annually on March 31. Learn more about the holiday’s launch in Breckenridge Distillery’s announcement or its explanation of how to après anywhere.
How to Observe National Après Day
Celebrate by finishing an enjoyable day with friends or family. Prepare a comforting meal, relax outdoors or at home, and talk about the day’s highlights. You don’t need to ski: après can follow a hike, bike ride, workday, or any other accomplishment. If you choose to enjoy an alcoholic drink, do so responsibly and only if you are of legal drinking age. You can also share how you’re celebrating with #AprèsAnywhere.
