World Refill Day

World Refill Day encourages people to choose refillable and reusable options instead of single-use plastic. Held annually on June 16, the day promotes practical ways to eat, drink, and shop with less waste, including refilling water bottles, carrying reusable cups, and choosing packaging-free products.

The campaign is coordinated by City to Sea, whose Refill scheme began in the UK in 2015. City to Sea ran National Refill Day from 2018, and the campaign later became World Refill Day as the Refill initiative expanded internationally. Its mission is to help make reuse and refill part of everyday life and reduce plastic pollution. The campaign’s mission and vision calls for a shift away from disposable, single-use culture toward a more sustainable future centered on reuse and refill.

How to Observe World Refill Day

Celebrate by carrying a reusable water bottle, cup, or shopping bag and refilling it rather than choosing a single-use alternative. Look for a refill station or a shop that offers packaging-free goods, and try replacing one disposable item with a reusable one. You can also talk with friends, family, or coworkers about simple ways to reduce waste and support businesses that make refilling easier.
