National Cake Decorating Day

National Cake Decorating Day, observed annually on October 10, celebrates the artistry, skill, and creativity involved in transforming an ordinary cake into an edible work of art. Cake decorating became popular in 17th-century Europe, while the craft became more accessible in the 19th century as baking powder production increased and electric ovens were introduced, according to the Alachua County Library District. The Wilton School of Cake Decorating opened in Illinois in 1929. Today, decorators work with buttercream, fondant, royal icing, sprinkles, edible colors, and other materials to create intricate patterns, flowers, figures, and themed designs.
