National Culinary Arts Month is observed throughout July to honor professional cooks, bakers, and chefs and recognize the creativity, skill, and effort behind the food they prepare. Culinary arts extend beyond cooking to include the preparation, presentation, and service of meals, as well as areas such as food science, food safety, and restaurant management, according to Holidays Calendar.
The month has been observed since at least 2002. Some sources identify 2002 as its beginning, while others say it may have started in 2001 or 2002; the holiday’s inventor is not firmly documented. The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation describes July as a time to honor cooks, bakers, and chefs for their creative expression and innovative recipes. Restaurants, kitchens, and culinary institutions may use the month to recognize these professionals and their accomplishments.
How to Observe National Culinary Arts Month
Celebrate by thanking a chef, baker, or cook whose work you appreciate. Visit a favorite restaurant, café, or bakery and try something new, or prepare a new recipe at home. You can also take a cooking class, watch a cooking show, learn more about culinary arts, or share a favorite dish and the reason you enjoy it. (NRAEF; National Day Calendar)
