On International Talk Like Jar Jar Binks Day, everyone talks in Gungan or Gunganese, just like Jar Jar Binks! According to the creators of the day, "Jar Jar has a very unique and awesome way of speaking. It's a lot of fun, so we decided that there should be a day when the entire world is encouraged to talk just like him!" They also said they "created the holiday in 2016 in order to help increase appreciation for and awareness of our favorite Gungan as well as Jar Jar's actor, Ahmed Best, and also because speaking Gunganese is fun." The holiday takes place on Ahmed Best's birthday. People celebrate the day by talking like Jar Jar Binks both in person and online.

Created by George Lucas, Jar Jar Binks appears in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. He was a major character in the first film, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, he had a small role in the second, and had only a cameo in the third. Voiced by Ahmed Best, Jar Jar Binks was the "first computer-generated supporting character in a live-action film." Best wore prosthetics to act out Jar Jar Binks before CGI was added. Lucas based Jar Jar Binks on the Disney character Goofy, and his intent with the first film was to provide comic relief. However, most critics and audiences did not like Jar Jar Binks. He not only became one of the most hated Star Wars characters but one of the most hated characters in film history. Some critics even thought he was a racist caricature, though this was denied by Lucas and Best.
