National Gummi Bear Day

National Gummi Bear Day celebrates the colorful, chewy candies known for their playful bear shape and fruity flavors. Observed annually on April 27, the holiday was established by HARIBO in 2022 in partnership with the National Day Calendar to mark the 100th anniversary of its Goldbears and the joy they have brought to children and adults. HARIBO’s announcement introduced the celebration as an invitation to smile and enjoy the nostalgic treat.

HARIBO was founded by Hans Riegel in 1920, and two years later he created the first gummi bear. The early candies were known as “Dancing Bears,” or Tanzbären, before evolving into the Goldbears familiar today. The name HARIBO combines “Hans Riegel” and “Bonn,” the city where the company was founded.

Celebrate by enjoying a handful of gummi bears and sharing some with friends or family. Compare different colors and flavors, or hold a blind taste test to choose a favorite.
