National Mustard Day

National Mustard Day celebrates mustard, the versatile condiment used to add flavor to foods such as hot dogs and brats. Observed on the first Saturday in August, the day brings mustard sampling, food, music, games, and prizes into the spotlight.

The celebration began in 1991 in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, when the National Mustard Museum hosted its first event. What started in front of the original museum has since grown into a street festival in downtown Middleton, where thousands gather each year, according to the National Mustard Museum. The museum’s festival features hot dogs, brats, mustard sampling, live music, and family-friendly games, making it a fitting celebration of the condiment in its many forms.

How to Observe National Mustard Day

Celebrate by trying a mustard variety you have not tasted before and pairing it with a favorite meal. You can also host a small mustard tasting with friends, using foods such as hot dogs, brats, or pretzels.

If you are near Middleton, Wisconsin, visit the National Mustard Museum’s festival for mustard samples, food, music, games, and prizes.
